More works on 3D

I was working very hard on the 3D works today, its difficult but full of interesting!! The following pictures are the works of today: 3D House with furniture^^ All designed by myself.

Traditional reminders

Some traditional but essential work in the past should be first mentioned, such as the paper calendar, alarm clock, notepad/notebook or recording pen. All of these items was playing important role in human beings life, user need these to record some staff, to note some “ToDo list”...

Drive and Talk

Dico is developed using the dialogue system GoDiS , GoDiS is an experimental dialogue system. A technique has been developed to transform GUI (Graphical User Interface) menus into VUI (Voice User Interface) dialogues, in order to be able to maintain an existing menu structure. This technique shows how to translate multi-choice lists into alternative questions and pop-up messages into actions that inform the user about something.

The novice user can let the system take charge and navigate through the menu structure by answering questions one by one:

S: What do you want to do? Make a call, go to the phone book, the settings or the helper or do you want to change domain?

U: Make a call

S: Ok, let’s see. Who do you want to call?

U: Lisa.

S: Cell phone number is available. Home number is available. Which number do you want to call?

U: Home number.

S: Ok, calling Lisa’s home number.

The experienced user does not have to follow the menu structure, instead it is possible to give all the information in one single utterance, and thus speed up the interaction:

S: What do you want to do?

U: Call Lisa’s home number, please.

S: Ok, calling Lisa’s home number.

Example article

This article just talking about how to set a voice as a ringtone. The author gave a some steps of how to deal with this function.

While navigating options for cell phone, select the voice memo or sound recorder function. Record the voice user would like to hear as a ringtone. For example, user can ask their child to say: "Dad, it's ringing!" As for user's cat or dog, it might be a bit more challenging to get them to participate in their voice ringtone experiment. Try to talk to the cat, some of them like to respond. Once recorded, the audio clip will be stored in a folder which varies depending on the phone models.

Technology of mobile phones

Nowadays, mobile phone company also hold some functionality competition, they all want get the high reputation and win the game in the intensive market, design of mobile phone spread their mind, create more useful, flexibility, creativity and full of humanity function into the mobile phones.

Voice records and apply them as ringtones in the Motorola RAZR V3. Chose the Options menu, then, choose option #1 here and you should be able to have your voce recording as a free ringtone for your RAZR.

In addition, the AD from BlackBerry company shows that “Let your BlackBerry smartphone sing when it rings! Turn voice notes into specialized ring tones, or download pre-existing ring tones.”

Apple Application

The project of this thesis is design for the Apple product, so the existing information of Apple product will give more better idea and more comparison, references during the design process.

1. Voice/Ringtone Recorder：Help record anything and make it audio file or ringtone for your iPhone.
Record unlimited time of audio and can export audio file to mail.

2. SpeakEasy Voice Recorder：This voice recorder shows so many merits:

Well spoken, which can give user a recoding studio that fits their pocket.

Ringtones, which can simply record the personalized message but less than forty seconds into ringtone.

Speak your mind, which can easily create quick reminders for things you might otherwise forget. And SpeakEasy will quickly give user recording a title and save it.

Picture this, which is a very good idea that making an important recording with picture attachment feature. Take a picture to go along with recording, or just choose one from photo library.

As the AD of this application said "SpeakEasy Voice Recorder is definitely the most polished and professional-looking option among all of the voice recorders that we reviewed, offering more advanced voice recording capabilities within a very attractive user interface."

Voicemail

Voicemail (or voice mail, voice-mail, voicemail or VMS, sometimes called message bank) is a centralized system of managing telephone messages for a large group of people, to assist users when they are not available.The term is also used more broadly, to denote any system of conveying voice message, including the answering machine.

Chronopher

The chronopher can be described as a time reminder. Especially for some specific user, such as cooking staff with housewives, doing some experiment with chemistries or anyone who need the reminder of the exactly time alarm. User can set a time ahead of time, and then adjust it for when to remind, so, user do not need to stand and wait for the end of the process.

Software of voice reminder

This is based on the calendar.

Add to the task bar clock the customization, recordable time announcements, images, calendar, forthcoming events list, daily time sheets, quick text/voice note taking and converting to tasks, appointments and to-do items that reminds about themselves in the ever-new-color scrollable window with specialized alarms and reminders. It's for those who are pressed for time. Work in comfort and let Your Voice Reminder to bother about your time and schedule. Hear the time announcements with your friend voice and see her/his pop-up image near the calendar.

Lots of work to do and a brand-new week is coming

In the following days, I will start my design process. As I mentioned in my presentation, the biggest problem for to create my project is the language program, we called it "Objective - C".

So, what is this?

I find it in the Apple official website, it shows that "The Objective-C language is a simple computer language designed to enable sophisticated object-oriented programming. Objective-C is defined as a small but powerful set of extensions to the standard ANSI C language. Its additions to C are mostly based on Smalltalk, one of the first object-oriented programming languages. Objective-C is designed to give C full object-oriented programming capabilities, and to do so in a simple and straightforward way."

And "Most object-oriented development environments consist of several parts:

An object-oriented programming language

A library of objects

A suite of development tools

A runtime environment"

Not only the English version, but also the professional issue confused me a lot :(

Tonight I have to finish part of our video work for the art installation. Then, see doctor tomorrow and have a discussion with my supervisor.

Dissertation presentation and happy weekend^^

Yesterday, we all finished our dissertation presentation, I think the I-median all did a great job in it. Congratulations! 
Here I have post my part in my blogger. Just attach it as a list of pictures.

Postscript: Here is the cover and title of my presentation.

Postscript: And I divided into 9 parts to describe my project, showed in the content slide.

Postscript: This system will probably combine some relevant form of machine, such as an alarm clock, electronic notebook, calendar in networks. The basic framework is under the reminder of alarm clocks, notes, and the recording pen.

Postscript: In this increasingly competitive society, people become increasingly busy and busy, to remember all the things simultaneously in their brain become more difficult. So they begin to choose the tool to help them remember something or select tool to remind them to do something. 

Postscript: There has a range of users, as long as they want things to note, need to urge them to do it. For example: students, business people hold a meetings, someone with medical issues, disable/old people and so on. But for some suggestion, the student may be the best target to design for.

Postscript: Originally I wanted this product design as a device, but later after some suggestions, I thought may turn it into application form would be better.

For example, it will be more inconvenient to carry with the device, but if the application is not the case, it can be installed in mobile phones, MP3, or electronic form inside, and these items are portable and convenient to carry with, so that, the value of this project is better. Therefore, if this is an application, it will be more easy to reminder our users at any time and at any places.

Postscript: The current thinking is that this idea is trying to be put inside the Apple products, so it's basic architecture is based on Apple's product packaging, during the design and creating process and with the teacher's advice, I think the most difficult thing to me is about the language, the programming issues, as the developer of Apple products, I need to use some certain language, the link showed in the slide.

Postscript: In the design process:

* User centered design. Understanding of users’ psychological demands.

* Learning the language program.

* To do some research (according to some questionnaires to collect users’ feedback and needs of the current living conditions). Interviews and methods, such as data collection. Do prototypes, then do evaluation and feedback again.

* Followed by a cycle process, until satisfied with the final product. This process can be described as an iteration form, which I learned from the foundation of interactive media module.

Postscript: This is a self-made video, which gave a basic show of the function and operation of my project. And here I want to give some THANKS to Sophia, Peng and Beata who gave me a favor to deal with my voice recording part^^ (The pity is that I don't know how to upload the video into the blog)

Postscript: For this part I have not yet got some great idea, but just think that people create development of technology is people like to make more convenient and better quality of life, and help people enhance the work efficiency, so hopefully it will bring some certain help to users, bring convenience to the user, giving people more fun in the life, making machine interactive is full of humanity, betting closer of the distance between human beings. (Many people consider, to a certain extent, the development of technology obstruct the communication between people.

Postscript: Two questions:

* Are there any existed limitations in my project? Or any suggestions for my project.

* About user group, as I mentioned before, there are so many, basically a stationary, so that there is no better target user for the project design to me, I just ask some comments and suggestions in this particular filed.

The 5 Senses in Interaction Design

Which of the 5 senses are exploited for building interfaces (touch, sight, hearing, smelling, tasting?) People use the 5 senses to understand the society, communicate with people and interactive with the world. I want to talk about the above issue by three parts:

Museum

“The movie Night at the Museum”

In this film, all of the exhibits can become active at night, and such creativity attracts a lot of audience's attention. If the museum want to attract visitor's attention, it may be good to create more interactive exhibits, there exist a talking robot in Japan, it can communicate with people with some certain words. And at the end of the film, the director just make all of the exhibits become relatively true and active, such as the roar of the dinosaur skeletons, the cowboy fighting and so on.

We also can imagine that, before entering the museum, visitors will get a device, which is a similar GPS system device, according to the location of visitors, the machine will play the appropriate animation, text explanations and image data, and some of the particular occasion will also emit sounds or smell during your visiting, these creativity would highlight the special significance of this exhibition. (Museum Guide to Video) (Such as images of war, there is the smell of ammunition, sound of the fire and for the dinosaur models; there may be an original eco-sound of the Age of Dinosaurs, etc.)

Cinemas
Today's cinema has been a big difference as before, especially in the 3D and 4D theaters.

Smelling of creativity

My graduation project is about the reminder; I would like to use some real and interesting sounds or voice to remind users it is time to do something, and later thought that if it can, then use a special smell may also play a role?

This idea can also be used in the construction of the website to connect the site and smell of some certain object. Such as one website which sale flower, when users enter the website, when click on different species of flowers; it will automatically emit a different smelling. According to this vision, perfume sites, recipes sites can also be used in such technologies.

New idea for my final project

After yesterday's presentation, I just think about that my reminder (final project) may add one more function: except the real voice of human beings, how about the special smell to remind the user to do their schedule?

It may be difficult to accomplish. @_@

Reminder device

Inspiration:

I am a person who always believe that every thing has a life, even if it just a still object, I would imagine that they would talk to each other under some certain circumstances. For me, this is a very interesting thing, so whenever I see something full of humanity, I cannot help but be curious about and full of love. According to this schedule reminder, I would like to add a human element that is the human voice (live sound) effects.
Imagine that if it has a live pronunciation, reminder on the schedule will show some kind of psychological familiarity and intimacy, to replace the original rigid object become a new one, which is filled with vivid effects, I think it is very interesting.

The basic framework is under the reminder of alarm clocks, notes, and as well as the recording pen. Alarm clock is a device that can give user a signal of certain time agenda, Notebook (article note) is to save some major issues’ content, and Recording pen is to provide the equipment to record sound file. These three combined, show all their best on the device.
This device has a rectangular shape body, divided into three parts: the time and date, calendar and operating buttons. The storage of the device is depends on the size of the memory.

Step of the design process:

In the design process may use the following ways:
First of all, I am going to do market research (according to some questionnaires to collect users’ feedback and needs of the current living conditions).
Understanding of users’ psychological demands, do prototypes (from the most basic paper prototype to start and constantly improve the functionality, sound, shape, etc. and gradually update), then do evaluation.
Followed by a cycle process, this process can be described as an iteration form, which I learned from the foundation of interactive media module.

Future wishes:

With this device, people can make every possible person’s voice in the recording system, recording the content in a variety languages, different ethnic, family members, friends, colleagues, puppy or kitten, etc.), the family's message gives a warm, friend's message gives courage, colleague’s to urge and the message from the puppy's gives love and affection and so on.
